Just for clarification, that means Dunwood, right?

No way it takes 20 minutes to get back to Inman Park in the afternoon either unless you are leaving work by 3pm.
Which area would you suggest then?

I actually did that move from Kennesaw to that area and that was one of the best things I could've done. I was 100s of times happier down there than up there and although Kennesaw is a great place, I felt the EXACT same way. Now for the commute, Howell Mill will be pretty congested trying to get to 75, but once you get on 75, its a pretty quick drive into Marietta. (JUST WATCH FOR THE COPS!!!!!) They love to prey on commuters on that stretch at rush hour trying to get to work on time. But this would be my #1 recommendation for you, its an absolutely awesome area to live in.
Interesting. I haven't only been in that area a few times. I thought it was Buckhead, but I guess it goes without sauing I have confusion about what's where, I did like it though..

I don't want anyone who took the time to respond to me to feel slighted, but I have to take a moment before I look at the rest of the replies.

You by no means have to respond to each post, very impressed that you have done so much so far!

ElleKaye: just an idea - you may want to take some trips to these areas that are being recommended and check them out for yourself. You can get an idea of what they are like by what we say, but you can learn much more by physically being there. This is what I've been doing, I'm in Roswell and in a similar position as you, and ready to make a move. Last weekend I spent time in Midtown/West Midtown, this weekend Downtown!

Quite urban, though not as much as New York (Atlanta really doesn't have any kind of New York vibe to it). Specifically, if you were to live near 14th St. and Piedmont, you'd be within walking distance of the biggest park in the city, not to mention living in a pretty large gay-friendly community. Not sure if either are the sort of things you're looking for, however.

You could try living in Marietta itself. The square is very nice with bars, restaurants, shopping, and community events. Also I would imagine your commute would not be bad at all.

I completely understand what you're saying and yes, just checking the areas out myself would answer my questions.

It's just so spread out and so much to cover that it seems to ask about the areas first this time. I could write a book on Kennesaw right now. Might not be a best seller but dead on balls accurate (to steal a line from an old movie) for anyone thinking about moving here.
