I wonder if this would have happen if it would have came to Atlanta?

It probably would have had larger crowds in Atlanta, even though Charlotte is more of a NASCAR crowd, simply by the larger number of people who come here. But ultimately it's a very niche product and I doubt many people would go more than once. My guess is that it would have made money for a few years before falling into negative territory like it has in Charlotte.

Geesh, when are Atlantans just going to let this one go?????

But I agree with Jillgineer. The venue belongs in Charlotte, but would have done much better out by the speedway.

Atlantans dont have anything to do with this. I posted a topic on a message board. Atlantans didn't

More specifically, you posted an article that doesn't have anything do with Atlanta on an Atlanta message board.

But even still, isn't the writer of the article from Atlanta? Like seriously, why do Atlanta-based publications continue to report on this when it's such ancient history at this point? It has nothing to do with Atlanta and comes across as a childish "I told you so!"

The relationship between the attractions (both the one in Charlotte, and the two slated for Atlanta), and why they are correlated in an article about Centennial Olympic Park is made pretty clear in the article:

"Atlanta officials envisioned the NASCAR museum as part of the resurgence around Centennial Olympic park, home to The World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium and SkyView Ferris Wheel. The College Football Hall of Fame is scheduled to open near the park in fall 2014 and attract 500,000 visitors annually.

The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is scheduled to open [near the park] in summer 2014."

From a reflective perspective, it will probably always be discussed "in Atlanta."

I still remember the Charlotte and NASCAR fans gloating about this years ago. I go to Charlotte annually for the Falcons-Panthers game, and the HOF looks like a white elephant, even in Uptown. Oddly enough, the gloaters told us to "enjoy the fish tank," which apparently millions of visitors have done, while the HOF is hemorrhaging cash.

Seriously, who cares? I want Charlotte to succeed. It's got some cool things about it, and it's a big trading partner of ours.

I am also hesitant to knock Charlotte until we see how our own museums do.
