I was relocated back in November to Atlanta with my job... had to move suddenly and ended up in Sandy Springs. Not exactly crazy about it... I'm used to apartment living with college students/young professionals. Here, I'm surrounded my lots of families and can't speak to a lot of my neighbors. My lease is up July 3rd and I'm looking for a new place! I've heard a lot of great things about Virginia Highlands...

A little about me- 29 year old female... I work retail (Lenox Square in Buckhead)... I work a lot, play a lot. I love sporting events (been to 4 Braves games the past month, 1 Falcons game after I moved here), shopping, drinking, cooking, traveling. I have one dog and I'm in a long-distance relationship. I love going out and I love meeting new people.

I'm looking to spend $900-$1400 a month.

Any info on the area, apartments/houses would be greatly appreciated!

Nikki

Look for apartments on Greenwood in Virginia-Highland, also look north up Briarcliff near Emory University, Candler Park, and Little 5 Points. You can look in Buckhead also. But Emory area will put you around students. Virginia-Highland is very nice but also residential but there are shops and restaurants and a few bars.

The apartments in Virginia-Highland or old and small with no ameneties so keep that in mind.

There are several smaller (non-gated) complexes along St. Charles. I'm not sure how nice they are, or what rent runs, I just happen to drive through frequently. There is a larger gated complex on Virginia near the southern part of the neighborhood that would give you excellent access to the Beltline, Piedmont Park, Trader Joes, Park Tavern, etc. Craigslist is your friend for searches like this, as many places are smaller and don't advertise.

Poster above is right that Inman Park has more apartment buildings, while still having some of the similar social opportunities. Inman Park will lean more towards restaurants, while the Highlands will have more bars.

I'd choose Virginia Highlands. Perhaps a place just off of North Highland Rd (which turns into Lenox Rd as you travel north), to make your commute simple.

I'd look into Highland View Apartments on Ponce de Leon Place. They're an easy walk to Piedmont Park and to the local supermarket. Some of the units there have great skyline views.
As far as older apartments go, Braden Fellman is a management company that specializes in vintage properties:

Here's some good news about Virginia-Highland.

Quote:
In July of this year, the Virginia-Highland Civic Association announced the formation of a Task Force to guide the creation of a transportation plan for Virginia-Highland. ...

As we tried to define the scope of such a plan, many closely related topics emerged that are fundamental to the community’s future, though not directly related to transportation. In order to make the most efficient use of the feedback processes and resources needed for any such public effort, it became clear to the Board that it makes more sense to broaden the planning scope beyond transportation to key topics like open space, urban design characteristics, historic resources, public services, demographic issues, development variables, environmental challenges, and educational concerns. The result will be a Master Plan for Virginia-Highland.

Maybe look at Emory Point
It is close to VaHi (across from the CDC, near Emory U.). It has apartments, restaurants, and shops. As long as you are going north on Clifton (away from the university toward Briarcliff) traffic should be about the same as VaHi-Morningside. Getting to your work should be about the same as from VaHi --maybe a little quicker, and you are probably less than 10 mins from VaHi restaurants and bars --plus it has its own.

Bike lanes on North Highland and Virginia Ave would be great.
