This is obviously impossible, given the failure to pass the TSPLOST a year ago. Companies were going to forget about Atlanta and leave the area, and new companies would never consider relocating or adding capacity here, right?

Again...where are all the purveyors of "doom and gloom" who tried to scare us last year? How does that crow taste?

That makes more sense. I just ordered a few items from Amazon that were shipped from Columbia, South Carolina.

So if they have distribution in Columbia, it wouldn't make much sense to have more distribution just a couple hundred miles away.

It would explain why Amazon suddenly decided to start collecting Georgia sales tax on purchases when they still refuse to do so in other states. Amazon has also doubled their workforce in the past couple of years. They're clearly gearing up for something big. Perhaps a combination of a same day shipping/WebVan type of service for large metropolitan areas.

I haven't heard about them setting up shop in Atlanta, but I don't see why they wouldn't set up in the Capital of the South.
Amazon seems to like smaller cities at strategic locations. There's probably little advantage to locating in Atlanta and being a "capital" doesn't mean much since there's no value to them other than proximity to consumers. Also they have a relatively new center just up the road in Chattanooga.

Amazon used to have a distribution center in McDonough back in 1999, though they closed after two years in operation.

There is still hope for Amazon here. One of the execs at Majestic Realty recently said that they were hoping to attract companies like Amazon to the Fulton site. Majestic Realty was involved in a project that led Amazon to open a distribution center in the Dallas area. I believe they did similar in Los Angeles.
