are “No Refusal” blood-draw DUI checkpoints in metro Atlanta. Good or bad?

Think there was already a thread on this before.

But ill bite. They need to stick with sobriety tests and stop being so demanding. Seems like we keep getting squeezed at every level government to give more and more of ourselves up. We need to stop giving into this guaranteed future oppression for the sake of safety. Something about this just seems very very wrong.

Call me paranoid, I know, that's fine. But hey, at least I'm not one of those wackjobs that believes the government can monitor any of our communications at a whim. Now that's crazy.

Here is the previous thread: //www.city-data.com/forum/atlan...ood-draws.html

I would rather be in jail than to allow LEA draw blood on me. I smell lawsuits over this.

Maybe I am misunderstanding this because of the thread title and the photo in the OP.

Are you saying the police can now set up random check points and force anyone driving down the road to undergo a blood test?

I draw the line at having a needle forcibly stuck in my arm, even with a court order.

Have mercy. I thought they couldn't even give you a field sobriety test unless they had probable cause to believe you are intoxicated. Weaving, or a crash, or something along those lines.

Well I think this is a terrible idea and infringement our personal rights, something has to be done about all the wrong way crashes on Atlanta freeways.

I know they were doing the mess in Texas before I left. They had a little trailer onsite that had a judge sitting in there waiting to approve these forced blood draws. My bet is they have won some legal battles first and other states will follow suit.

It really is frightening. Once we are comfortable with this, what do we move onto next in the name of safety? Random citizen drug tests? Hmm, why not!

To all you "in the name of safety" folks out there, what do you think about lowering the speed limit on the interstate to 35 mph? You can be certain that this act alone would save significantly more fatalities than DUI checkpoints and / or any conceivable counter-terrorism measure.
