Sky Buckets along Moreland Avenue? Let's ponder the possibilities, shall we? | Atlanta News & Opinion Blog | Fresh Loaf | Creative Loafing Atlanta

Yeah, thats right, GONDOLAS. No, we're not talking about building a canal down Ponce, we're talking about the bringing the spirit of the ski slopes to Atlanta.

How has this not been proposed yet! The price is right and the infrastructure would be so easy to install. Atlanta could be at forefront of the gondola revolution in the US. I can just imagine these gliding along 14th St on those high tension power lines. And you thought massive power line poles through one of the premier districts in Atlanta was a bad idea , how shortsighted of you!

Price per mile from the article-
Quote:
Existing urban gondola systems average $12 million per mile, as compared to $26 million per mile for the downtown streetcar, $35 million for rail, and up to $400 million for subway.
BTW, I'm joking and would not want to see a network of these towering over Atlanta. Although as ridiculous as they sound, it seems like it could work well in a couple of scenarios. People apparently do take this seriously. The Gondola Project

This is literally the dumbest idea I have ever heard of and I'm not afraid to say it.

First thought was that this is stupid. But after reading it, I think it is a good idea that could be good for certain connections.

Hell, if you're gonna do this, why not just build a roller coaster transit system? Imagine taking a roller coaster from Inman Park MARTA down Moreland to East Atlanta to get hammered and then riding it back when you're damn near blacked out at 2 AM. What could go wrong?
