Greetings All, been in Atlanta a while and would like others' opinions on why we continue to "Call Atlanta Home." I lived in Atlanta from 2001-2004. What I loved and now miss about Atlanta was the fact of having so much to do. Every month there seemed to be some sort of festival or get-together that was worth going to. It was also great because there was no snow and it seemed like it never got cold. I miss Atlanta for alot of things so I just can't ramble on in this post.

It isn't home. It is just the 5th of 5 cities I have resided in during the course of my life. Kansas is my home but I have not lived there since I was 20.

I was born here in 1959 - much has changed! Many of those changes is why I stay. Atlanta has become a diverse city and I greatly enjoy that! Within 3 miles I can eat Mexican, Brazilian, Turkish, Greek, Italian (real), Polish, Indian, Jamaican, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, and more. I guess you can tell I'm food oriented!

I was a corporate transfer in 2004 from Chicago, which I was a corporate transfer in 2001 from New Jersey, which I was a corporate transfer from Richmond in 1994, which I was a corporate transfer from my West Virginia hometown in 1992
One company, many locations.
Each place has positives and negatives.
What I enjoy about Atlanta:
-The overall cost of living is less than all of the above, even inclusive of WV mostly due to overall taxation.
-The fact I can keep my car looking new all year long. Can't do that in the salt and slush north.
-Sweet Tea
-Fried Pickles
-My wifes is very happy. Happy wife, happy life.
-Southern roots / history as many of my ancestors served in the Stonewall Brigade. History is alive and well even with the onslaught of the revisionist.
-Atlanta Hawks, yeah I love'm and one day they will win the big one!
-Gwinnett Glad's, minor hockey at it's best.
-The mountains to the North
-Savannah to the South/East
-Pine Mountain/Calloway to the West
and
Atlanta, a city with so much potential just lacking in overall leadership.
What I do not enjoy
-Traffic, by far the worst I have ever driven, yes inclusive of NJ, NY, and the 5 in Cali. It's volume, plus insanity (speed) not a good match
-Crime, Atlanta is not overall utopia of safety (today's Mall shooting and 5 bank robberies in 7 days is a good example)
-Christmas here is just plain weird. I think Santa, Frosty, and snow angles. Not shorts, flip-flops, and A/C. Somehow blowup snowmen on dormant bermuda grass just don't look like Christmas
-Overall lack of "good" restaurants. If you have ever lived in Jersey or Chicago nothing here will come close. Good Italian anyone?
Overall the positives outweight the negatives, so I guess I will be calling it home for a long time to come.

I agree. For the most part a nice place but the horrible traffic here subtracts from alot of what the area does offer. Good weather is great if it does not take you 2 hours to drive home to enjoy it. I have driven in lots of "bad traffic" cities like LA, Chicago and even NYC and nothing is as bad as Atlanta is one its best day.

I call Atlanta home because whenever I travel, I always feel welcomed back when I arrive in Atlanta because of the good will of most Atlantans. I noticed it the other day when I got on the Park and Ride van to go back to my car after being in Canada for a week - the driver lady helped me with my bags, asked if the temperature in the van was comfortable and said "Welcome Home" It doesn't get much better than that!
