Our soon-to-be-13 year old daughter's birthday falls on Thanksgiving Day this year. However, she does not want a traditional Thanksgiving feast on her special day. She says she wants Chinese food!!! (It figures. She grew up in Asia).

Can you recommend any great places in Atlanta for Chinese food? What are your favorites?

Even if they aren't open for Thanksgiving (I suspect most restaurants will be closed), then we can give her a rain check for Thanksgiving weekend.

Grab some chinese newpaper at Chinese grocery store on Buford Hwy. You can find tons of Chinese restruarants in ads. Call around and find good menu. There are many authentic Chinese food served at the restraurants, depending on your taste.

My favorite restaurant in the Buford Higway area is Penang. They are at 4897 Buford Hwy Ste 113,in a mall with an Asian grocery and lots of other restaurants. They are Malaysian but offer lots of Chinese dishes. I recommend the Sarang Burong. Penang is one of the few Buford Highway restaurants that offer an all inclusive combination of authentic food, good atmosphere, good service and reasonable prices.

Another recommendation for pure Hong Kong style Cantonese food is China Delight at 2390 Chamblee Tucker Rd. This would be a good choice for Dim Sum and Chinese style seafood.

These places are all open on Thanksgiving and will be crowded so I recommend going early.

Second Vote for Canton Cooks in Sandy Springs. Sounds like a fun birthday and alternative to turkey!

Default ATL Chinese food

I know I'm chiming in a bit late but here's what I've got on Chinese food in Atlanta.
You've gotta go check out Tasty China out in Marietta. The food tends to have quite a kick to it, so be careful with the little one in tow. Its a bit too much of a haul for me these days but it is sure tasty!

Others that are worth checking out are:

Canton Cooks in Sandy Springs
Little Bangkok on Cheshire Bridge (yea, more of a Thai restaurant, but they have a full Chinese menu that is very good as well).

I hope thats helpful for you!

I have not tasted any Chinese food in Atlanta that I liked. What's with the peas and carrots and vidalia onions? I am afraid to try any new places for fear that they are all the same. I miss the Chinese food in Chicago's Chinatown where they use bean sprouts.

The Iron Wok Bistro in Hamilton Mill/Dacula.
Hard to find if not familiar. Need to take exit 120 turn right.
Go to 124 light turn left. Go past first light at Starbucks to very next right.
Bank of America light. Iron Wok is off to the right.
Good food. Mongolian Beef and Singapore Rice Noodles are outstanding.

The best place (and we have eaten a lot of Chinese!) is Grand China on Peachtree Rd. in Buckhead. Not too greasy, the chicken is always recognizable white meat and I have never seen any of those little pea, carrot, onion mixes (I hate that too, CrownPrincess)
