FU-qua is at it again. Closes on prime parcel along BeltLine and Piedmont Park.

What Carr heard inside this Invest Atlanta meeting Thursday morning was a plan for an 11-story hotel, a grocery store, townhomes and apartment living, with that mandated 30 percent affordable housing.
Controversial project connected to the BeltLine approved by city board

This was a pretty well done article. I support many of the developments Fuqua has done, and think some people in a community can be too radical against developments. Edgewood District has its issues but I think was a benefit to the community and he had dozens of meetings with the community to get it built (Because he had to get it rezoned).

As for Glenwood, I am fine with a big box. But the proposed development and more so their approach has been terrible and is turning me against him. He has really not made any effort to make changes to gain the support from the community. If he thinks he can get away with it, he will screw over the community to save costs.

The sad thing is there was probably a great middle ground he could have reached with a little effort. Apartments are big right now, especially in that area. The added profit from apartments on that lot probably would more than offset the cost of building a parking garage for the big box and made for a denser, walkable, mixed use development that would have had enough neighborhood support.
Edgewood's issues may well be because it was "designed by committee."

The fight over putting so many businesses and a hotel at the location has been ongoing for more than a decade, and Thursday morning, the plan received the support of outgoing Mayor Kasim Reed and the majority of the Invest Atlanta board, who touted housing and job opportunities as a reason to move forward.

But the plan drew intense backlash from residents, some of whom say they’d just learned about the pending vote Wednesday night.

“This is a city now where people want to feel heard, and that the old way of doing things, by old way, I mean the last few years,” resident Fred Smith said in public comments after a closed executive session to discuss the project and the public vote. “Meaning the last few years, is not going to continue to fly.”
Wow, Kasim is really being an ass on his way out. Shame no one is coming up behind him that will hold him accountable. He will not be getting my support for any future endeavors.

Where is this parcel exactly?

Why can't I shake the feeling that Reed wants to jump into the development game?

Interesting...makes sense. And with an in at City Hall, who wouldn't want this guy on their team... ugh

That parcel looks awfully small for a grocery store and how in the hell is traffic going to be managed on Monroe? So close to the 10th st intersection... Don't developers have to do impact studies? How could the inevitable traffic impact be considered acceptable?

I believe the parcel(s) contain those 2 existing old small buildings, plus the larger area behind them. On the east side of where the Beltline will be.

Strangely it does not include that long gravel parking lot, which is on the western side of the Beltline.
