Thank you Bananpie! I appreciate your words so much. Every day is different. Some days I'm really excited to move and other days I dread it!

Do you agree that getting from John's Creek to Duluth -- where my husband will be working -- would be a pain in the neck? I don't want to give him a crazy commute. Twenty mins. is what he has here in Virginia and he's fine with it.

Thanks for your help!

As some other posters have stated, you can go ahead and try living in Johns Creek and having your husband commute to Duluth, though the biggest concern is getting across the Chattahoochee River and through the oft-congested intersection with Peachtree Industrial Boulevard (PIB) on Pleasant Hill and GA 120 Abbotts Bridge roads during rush hour.

That's not to say that a 20-minute rush hour commute is not possible between Johns Creek (JC) and Duluth, because in some circumstances (like depending on where on may live in JC and if the commute is being made during the summer or other school vacation periods when there is slightly less traffic on the roads during morning and evening rush hours) I'm sure that it is possible.

But I would not necessarily bet the house (so to speak) that a 20-minute rush hour commute between JC and Duluth will be possible every workday.

If you want to ensure a 20-minute rush-hour commute (or something very-close to it, give-or-take a few minutes, more or less) then you should concentrate your focus on the Gwinnett County side of the Chattahoochee River where there are some great residential communities with the amenities that you are looking for and where there are some great schools closer to where your husband will be working on Satellite Boulevard in Duluth.

If there is some kind of amenities that you are just thrilled with on the Johns Creek/North Fulton side of the Chattahoochee River and do not mind a rush-hour commute that will potentially be more (sometimes substantially more) than 20 minutes each way each workday, then expand your search to include the Johns Creek area, but just know that a 20-minute commute may not necessarily be possible everyday between Johns Creek and Duluth by way of routes like Pleasant Hill Road and GA 120 Abbotts Bridge Road.

Turning left from Pleasant Hill onto eastbound PIB in the afternoon is the pinnacle of futility.

Okay! Got it! Thanks for the very helpful info.

Where we currently live in VA we chose a community and later ended up semi-regretting it. So I'm trying hard to make the best choice I can from the start.

Thanks to all of you Suwanee is sounding ideal. My husband will be on Satellite in Duluth and I can't quite figure out if we'd be better being Suwanee or Duluth. But it sounds like families do well in Suwanee and one poster said that one neighborhood puts cars directly into Satellite -- so that's starting to sound like the best option.

I really appreciate all of the help!

Not when you know how to cut through the shopping center parking lot!

Or just turn right onto PIB and then make a u-turn, which is also much faster than waiting on that super short protected left arrow.

You learn the best tips on City Data. Would this tip make John's Creek a community I should consider? Or would this still be a long haul for my husband?

You're still better off on the Gwinnett side of the river.

Thanks!

Are there actually homes in the historic part of Suwanee?
