If you are ok with the older places without all the bells and whistles then you can find cheaper in that area.

Rent Apartments in 30322, GA | ApartmentGuide.com

Plenty of places for way cheaper in that same zip code. Those apartments can charge that amount for rent because it is right across the street from the CDC. If the CDC wasn't there they would not be able to charge that amount. It is always good to have a balance of luxury and regular apartments

BTW, I should hang out of there at lunch to meet some women from the CDC with some high paying jobs lol

A lot of the places listed in this link are in Stone Mountain and Decatur. I used to live near Emory. When apartment hunting the cheaper places were typically the old buildings.

I find it odd that student apartments would be expensive. It's it usually the opposite?

These apartments are not being marketed exclusively to students. For starters, the university, hospitals and CDC complex are enormous employers in the immediate area. Even that notwithstanding, the Clifton Corridor is convenient to so many other intown areas.

Are you aware of the socioeconomic status of many Emory students? Those kids ain't poor. Many of them come from VERY exclusive upbringings in the Northeast.
