Fulton Commissioner: District abandons South Fulton students... | Get Schooled | www.ajc.com

I figured this would happen eventually. I didn't think it would happen this soon though.

Where exactly will the new headquarters be? It says Sandy Springs, but that's a rather spread-out city.

Hard to understand this criticism from Commissioner William "Bill" Edwards:
"Over the years, I’ve frequently been left with the impression that the Fulton County School System wishes they could just forget South Fulton schools exist. While schools resembling grand palaces are built in North Fulton, I have often felt that South Fulton schools have to fight for everything they get."

Yet reality doesn't seem to bear that out.

South Fulton schools are doing as well in both funding and student/teacher ratio as North Fulton schools.

As far as schools resembling grand palaces, this photo of Westlake in south Fulton speaks for itself.

Could this move be a means to reduce any chance of a Milton County or smaller, city school districts?

6201 Powers Ferry Road (close to the Northside Drive exit on 285) and 450 Northridge Parkway, which is just off Roswell Road, near the Northridge Road exit off of 400.

Based on what Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards said, it sounds as if he wants it all for South Fulton. If I got it right from the quote

South Fulton will still have an office in Union City.

Just another example of the North vs South squabbling in Fulton County.

A 90-mile long thin county like that should be broken up. Let them have Milton County, Carve up South Fulton among its surrounding counties, and join the City of Atlanta to DeKalb County with the county seat still being Decatur. That'll keep things in line with the state constitution, keep all of the city of Atlanta in one county, and really should make everyone happy.

Yep. North Fulton has considerably more residents and schools than South Fulton. So it would seem like the logical location.

I don't see these 2 school systems splitting off anytime soon despite this move. I think there is too much politics at play and most of the GA legislature would not care about Fulton County's school issues if such decisions are determined at the State level.

Columbuskidd92, that is interesting the pictures of Westlake HS and Carver HS in this thread. It is likely the same plan and architect!
