Calm down people.. it's symbolic haha. For those of us born and raised in the south, this is our New York.

Have you ever been to NYC?

Where are you from?

Clearly you are from outside of Atlanta. Atlanta's do not want to be associated with NYC (No disrespect) and I'm sure NYC feels the same way. People in general will think that you have never been anywhere especially to NYC if you use that term. Just say that Atlanta is the capital of the south. You clearly have never been anywhere near NYC if you use that term and people will just shake their head and laugh at you for making that comparison. It's like saying that Valdosta is the Tokyo of the south Ga. Lake Lanier beach is the South Beach of Ga.You see how silly that sounds?

Let's don't be silly here folks. It's clear what NYC of the South implies. Like NYC is the largest most metropolitan city in the North, Atlanta is too in the traditional South. That's the reference. It's not saying that Atlanta is as big as NYC, has as great of a public transportation system, has as much international influence. It is simply a regional standing comparrison.

Actually I was rasied in Atlanta and have family in New York. So I am very familiar with both. AnsleyPark hit the nail on head when he stated that it is used simply as a regional comparison. By no means do I think Atl is ACTUALLY NYC. You guys are really taking this too far. Not everything is a deabte guys.. Chiiiiiiiilllll

NEW YORK: "The Empire State"
GEORGA: "The Empire State of the South"

^^^ This is not a new slogan. Georgia (and more specifically, Atlanta) has been compared to New York for more than a century.

EXPLAINER: "This nickname represented a determination in the Georgia citizenry to be leaders in industrial and economic development in the southern tier of states."

LOL! Funny arguments here.

If Manhattan were not an island, would NYC look like it does? The geography of the place has as much to do with the dense urban landscape of NYC as much as anything. Had NYC not been built where it is but in the heartland with no geographic obstructions for 360 degrees, it would not look anything like it is today. Manhattan has what... maybe 2.5 million of the areas 18 million. Where do the rest live? Outside of some dense areas in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, you are in a suburban landscape for most of the metro area. NYC metro sprawls from halfway to Philly to halfway to Boston. There are Pennsylvania counties now in the NYC metro area.

Some equate NYC with just Manhattan. There is a lot more to the area than just the Manhattan.

Manhattan: The L.A. of the North! Houston: NYC of Texas (I would have used Dallas, but Nairobi might take offense!)

The word used was "replica". Making it a pretty strong statement. Chicago is closest to being a replica of New York.
