Forget about minority-majority or the how non-Metropolitan Georgia leans politically, this right here is why Democrats have been pulled down in recent years. It's as if the State party has given up. Wait, that's exactly what happened. After the "moderate" Blue Dogs left the party en mass from the mid-90s until the early part of last decade, and the whole machine collapsed, no one has come along to pickup the pieces.

It also hasn't helped any that Atlanta Democrats for the most part seem content with living in "the island", not giving a single thought as to how to bring the rest of the State along. All that is needed is someone who is affable enough to get people excited again that would attract fundraising as well as candidates to run in all parts of the State, rather than an Atlanta-centric campaign.

I think Carter might just be able to pull such a thing off. He is sure to attract a lot of media attention being the scion of a former President.

Nunn in the Senate. Carter in the governor's mansion. Good times could be back again! (Guess you've all picked up that I'm a yellow dog Democrat....)

Great maybe we can be more like NY, MA, CT, RI, etc.

Then we can become one of the worst states for business and have a horrible tax climate!

Hopefully Carter campaigns as a moderate and pro-free-market if he wants a chance. Despite having other issues, Prez Carter actually initiated a lot of the deregulation that Reagan got the credit for.

WABE interviewed Carter today. He sounded very thoughtful. Wants to reduce the size of government and enhance education. WABE likely has it posted on its web site.

So in other words he would fake his true beliefs to get elected? A fashionable liberal tactic.

carter wasn't a liberal president by any means. in fact, carter fought hard for very conservative budgets and added only a small amount to the national debt... much smaller than what reagan added during either of his 2 four year terms. So here we have carter, a principled man who fought against crony capitalism, getting mocked year after year by republicans and tea partiers. But at the same time they praise regain, a guy that loved to spend and run up the debt. That always amuses me.

Unless I'm mistaken, this Carter grew up in Peachtree City and went to McIntosh High School. That would explain the lack of a Southern accent.
