They're going to move the gas line. According to the linked news report, it's already accounted for in the budget plan.

To summarize everything, Cobb County will support a new stadium but not the expansion of MARTA to at least the Cumberland and galleria area.

Now that it's a done deal, let's hope they make it into something amazing.

The vote wasn't in question. The right pockets have been greased & their buddies have had their land deals lined up for months. The better question will be what lawsuits get raised from now until groundbreaking. The commissioners just made a $300M decision w/o any input from taxpayers in a famously anti-tax/libertarian stronghold...the real fireworks will happen later.

With the substantial operational and financial issues that MARTA has experienced in recent years (huge losses of revenue and passengers, severe service cuts, and poor public perception being amongst those issues), it's completely understandable why counties outside of Fulton and DeKalb would be extremely hesitant to want to join a transit agency with so many challenges.

Needless to say, MARTA would have to improve into a much better operational, financial and public opinion position before an expansion outside of Fulton and DeKalb counties would be even remotely politically viable.
