Parking is going to be distributed around Cumberland with a circulator, so most people won't be parking at the stadium itself. There will be some parking on Circle 75 North of the stadium, but they'd probably be coming in via Windy Hill's future divergent diamond interchange.

They'll need police directing traffic to avoid grid-lock.

But all-in-all, Cumberland is better able to absorb the traffic than roads around Turner Stadium.

I'm more concerned about the lack of a flyover going West, since I live about 2mi West of there and will need to cross traffic going to the stadium some days to get onto I-285. If I know there's a game, I'll probably head home the back way via I-20 or take surface roads (also faster, but bad on the shocks). If not, I'm screwed.

I saw that too. I really like it, but I also hope they don't build that... until they find a more adequate site.

It is on an island that is just a large port, cruise terminal, and is home to the headquarters of Royal Caribbean. It is connected to downtown by a single bridge. It lacks walkable connections and transit. They will have huge logistical problems with game-day traffic + heavy cruise ship and freight terminals days.

The view is second to none, admittedly, but that island is simple not incorporated into the fabric of the city. There is no development there, so they would control all the new development next to the stadium

..... oh wait... this is just like the Braves moving to Cobb

But seriously, I think Miami could place it better and incorporate it into their city.

Maybe they are reading the thread.

Georgia State's president was on the news tonight saying they might be interested in using Turner Field for football and the rest of the land for other campus uses, including student housing.

Cool. Turner Field is a perfectly good stadium; it'd be a shame to have it go to waste.

Reed says city has received multiple offers on Turner Field | www.ajc.com

Quote:
“We can sell Turner Field right now,” Reed said in a sit-down with local reporters Thursday morning.

Atlanta has received two to four offers on the 77-acre property, he said, declining to give specifics.

...

“All of the parties we have had conversations with about Turner Field have the kinds of resources necessary to fully build out the parcel in a way that would be an improvement over the current site,” he said. “…The only impediment to it is the Braves making a firm exit decision that is irretrievable.”

Reed said when the time is right, he’ll make an announcement about the future development from his executive chambers, the same place he stood last November following the Braves’ bombshell announcement.

Braves could linger at Turner Field into 2017

I like this part:
Quote:
The Braves have a five year option to extend the lease, though the team would undoubtedly ask for a shorter extension if the Braves stadium in Cobb isn't complete by the 2017 season.

If it were to come to that however, Reed said he would insist on a five-year extension. "They gotta take it all," he said smiling. "Can't take a piece. You gotta take all five" years, he said.
Seems that would quite the karmic retribution...making them pay for both stadiums if they can't finish on schedule. Given they have only have 9 weeks of slack in their current plans, I wonder if they could wind up homeless for a bit in 2017.
