The general area along Rainbow Drive is often/sometimes called "Rainbow."

There is a Rainbow Elementary, Rainbow Forest, etc.

Stable middle and upper-middle class African-American area. Some upper class as well.

Do a search for a map that does shows income levels for Metro Atlanta and/or DeKalb County and the "Rainbow" area will stand out a bit.

Talk about an area steeped in Atlanta history!

Rainbow Drive was named by Mr. R. L. Mathis, who acquired the property in 1917. He and his family operated a certified dairy there for many decades thereafter.

A fresh bottle of R.L Mathis pasteurized was a staple outside Atlanta homes for generations. No telling how many kids gulped down a glass of their milk before heading off to school.

Mathis dairy was also the home of Rosebud, a beautiful Holstein visited by thousands of Atlanta schoolchildren.

Agree this drives personal choice for those who have an option. Who wants their family to be by the inevitable crime, lack of pride of ownership, poor schools, risky property values, etc. Interestingly, it is contrary to the idea of Section 8 vouchers and the general consensus that isolating the poor is bad for those residents and the broader community.

ANYWHERE in South Dekalb east of Bouldercrest and south of I-20 are good, black upper middle/upper income areas. Some areas around Arabia Mountain, Panola Rd, Evans Mill Rd, and Browns Mill Rd are BEAUTIFUL. They just aren't very close in to the city of Atlanta...
