(Note: This is a thread about the ballpark itself--not the merits of the new stadium, transportation and traffic issues, how it will be paid for, etc. Neither does this concern the immediate surroundings, but the ballpark itself.)

What features do you want to see in the new stadium?
Do you want it to be a hitters' park like Fulton-County stadium or a pitchers' park like Turner Field?
What kind of fan amenities should be present?
Do you have any specific kind of design suggestions?

A great backdrop. One of the unquestionable downsides to a suburban ballpark, and one in the Atlanta Metro in particular, is that you won't have a skyline or beautiful natural backdrop to work with. So the architecture itself needs to deliver that, most likely incorporating a great scoreboard presentation. Start with something like Kaufman Stadium in Kansas City and then do it even bigger and better. The smaller size of this baseball-only park should allow the designers to cut down on outfield seating and do something special out there.

Something more exciting then hitting a ball with a bat and running around bases.

I like that this will be a smaller stadium. That's the trend these days, and it results in a more intimate ballpark.

One of the coolest ballparks I've seen (OK, only on TV and in pictures) is Target Field in Minneapolis, which opened in 2010. It's neither retro nor ultra modern, but it looks great.

From Wikipedia:

"Populous, the lead architectural design firm, tried to avoid creating a replica of the old-style brick Camden Yards or modern urban design of the new Nationals Park (both also designed by Populous). Instead, the design for the new Twins stadium employs local limestone, heated viewing areas and a heated field."In 2010, ESPN The Magazine ranked Target Field as the #1 baseball stadium experience in North America."

As long as the Braves are going to abandon the perfectly fine (but not particularly special) Turner Field, I hope they can build a stadium that's worth 600 million bucks and incorporates features that are unique to this region, like was done at Target Field.
