Why haven't the suburbs surrounding the airport grown. You'd think being a few miles from the world's busiest airport would make those cities grow, right. Why isn't there any Investment going into these cities, and why wasn't there any in the past.

They did after WWII. Believe it or not those cities were once beyond the reach of "Atlanta." Following WWII Hapeville, East Point, College Park, and Forest Park grew into suburban districts. East Point swelled to 40,000 people at it's peak. Following the racial struggles of the 1960's-70's most of the white people moved further south to Henry county, Peachtree City, and the Newnan area while Hapeville, East Point, etc. declined in per capita incomes as Section 8 housing and poor immigrants poured in. They suffered declining investment and stagnated. Forest Park managed to hold it's own for a while longer. However, southern Fulton suburbs are growing. Fairburn, Union City, Palmetto, and Riverdale all showed major population increases in 2010.
