Greetings my fellow City Data'ers

I have fell in love with Atlanta's surrounding suburbs and plan to move my life down there. I have been down there 3 times in the past month and picture my life down there and no where else.

A little about me is that I'm a humble white straight male that makes a living buying and selling on ebay (since 2005). I grew up Conservative (christian reformed) and very family orientated. My entire family has moved south (mainly FL or NC) and it's time for me to take the next step and move to my dream city of Atlanta. I only date black women (yes it was a shock to my entire family at first lol). I have no children except for my puppy Charlene. I want to purchase but think renting at first would be a good idea until I can figure out where I want to be. I've saved about $240,000 cash in the piggy bank the past 5 years (I am dutch so we tend to save our money for some reason) and am ready to start the next chapter of my life!

I am looking for tips and advice with moving and what areas to look out for etc. Any words of wisdom would be very helpful. Again, I want to buy eventually but will rent at first to see what areas I like.

Thank you for your time.

Well, those certainly are some interesting comments as I am glad that you like Atlanta's suburbs so much.

It would help us to better help you if you knew where in the Atlanta metro area (which neighborhood, city, town, suburb, etc) you will be working in so that we can help you find an area in which to stay where your commutes to and from work will not be painfully long, particularly if you have to commute during morning and evening rush hours.

Something else that would help us to help you is for you to read the following and post the answers in a reply below so that we can know how much you want to spend for a dwelling, specifically what type of suburban metropolitan environment you want to live in, etc, so that we can narrow down a place for you in a large metro region that spans an area of up to 40 counties and roughly over 10,000 square miles.

1. Budget
2. House/Condo/Townhome?
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home)
4. Children(public school vs. private)
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not?
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood.

These are just a few off the top of my head, feel free to add more.

Greetings Born 2 roll,

1. My budget is anywhere from $650 to $1,500 a month
2. House / Condo / Townhome is all ok with me
3. I work from home doing ebay
4. No children
5. Mix of the 2 lifestyles (not downtown but within 25 mins)
6. I have my own cars so I do not need MARTA
7. I prefer a young professional neighborhood.

I posted some of this in my initial post as well

THANK YOU!

Inman Park has plenty of young professionals, mixed demographics, it's near our largest park, 5-10 mins to Midtown, near the largest food market in the USA that is opening next year, it's near another food market that is opening nearby next spring, running trails, restaurants, nightlife, etc. Our largest park nearby has concerts, festivals etc damn near every weekend when it warms up.
