Wassup everyone! My husband and I are planning on moving up to ATL in June. We are both teachers and currently live in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Florida has no state tax, but we have discovered that Georgia does. How much is it? For example, if my salary is 4,400 per month, approximately how much would be taken out?

The tax is basically 6%. It is based on your federal AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) and is adjusted by the number of exemptions you claim on your Georgia return and a few other things. Mine comes out to about 5% of gross earnings, yours could be different.

We moved from Cooper City to Metro Atlanta last January.

No, Fla does not have income tax, and GA does, but for us we came out ahead with the taxes, due to Fla's property and insurance costs.

Good luck!

Do you pay the tax monthly or yearly?

And you can get some back in April if you over pay

Also, pay in Fl is 20% less than what you get in ATL.
From a brochure that I recently read, ATL also has 400 out of the Fortune 500 companies.

It's a great city for work opportunities and advancement.
