Are Atlanta's Interstates easy to get lost on? My friend from Charlotte recently visited me and said that the interstate design here is confusing. He said signage is poor and changing lanes is difficult. Does anyone agree with this. I don't have any problems but I've lived here all my life? Side note: Who made the decision to run 75/85 like it is through downtown.

As long as you pay attention to the overhead signs and make your lane changes early, then its easy.

One thing that gets me is I75 & I85 are not in the correct East/West alignment South of the city.

With the Interstate number plan I75 should be West of I85 Not East of it.

Atlanta is the easiest system to figure out in the country.

285 is a circle around Atlanta. 20 goes east/west. 75/85/400 goes north/south

That's it for the most part.

Signage is very good. Lanes are clearly marked. No offense to your friend, but if he got lost in Atlanta, then I'd hate to think what would happen to him in some of the parts of the country where lane markings and signs truly aren't very clear.

You really have to be trying to get lost on the interstate in the Atlanta area.

it was a racial thing back in the early 60s. screwed up downtown/midtown for decades, and just now are we beginning to fix the problem.

What is it like living where that is the primary reason for everything you see?

I would not say it's confusing enough to get lost, but the signs can be misleading. The thing I've liked the least is that you often have two down arrows for an exit when there's actually only one exit lane. If I'm driving during light traffic then it's not a problem, but the traffic is almost never light.

One thing I've noticed here is that natives give directions by exit #. Awesome Sauce that you know the nos. but can I get the name of the street lol? I feel uncomfortable depending on the numbers alone.

What are you talking about?

To answer OP, the only remotely confusing part about the interstate system here is going north on the connector out of midtown and finding that you need to be in the left lanes to get on 85 and the right lanes to be on 75.

So am I to infer that signage in that era was deliberately designed to confuse minorities?
Where is my Tylenol?
