Har, that's great, ATLTJL!

I wonder if there has ever been a case of somebody riding MARTA out to the suburbs to commit a crime?

If so, said person needs to go back to crime school.

Yes, ^^^ indeed & not collect their $200 on the way to crime school!
In fact I always viewed that popular conception of MARTA & the crime it would bring to suburban areas as being an urban legend type of thing. Nevertheless, I think it found a measure of acceptance, gravitas (duplicitously so in my view) through segments of the media such as talk radio.
Yup, I can just see back in 1985 how people would have feared that their 150 lb television set was going to be hauled away by someone who then would load it onto a bus & then connect onto a train for a ride home back in Atlanta.

We all know it's not so much the crime that they're worried about coming, but a certain element of people they've been hoping to keep away from them for years. It should be a given now that method isn't going to work considering most people here drive anyway. Look at the demographics of Cobb and Gwinnett now and tell me how well not having Marta helped them with that.

I cannot tell you how many times I've seen people riding the bus with a LED tv, out of the box, sitting in their lap.

Back in the 1980's when the idea became a local "urban legend" that folks would ride MARTA out to the suburbs to commit crime & then carry the stolen property back into Atlanta while riding the bus or train, there were no light LED tv's. Instead they were cumbersome, big & overly heavy units.
If you see someone riding the train carrying an LED tv today, it's almost an entirely different product.
Per my experience, I've never seen an LED product on MARTA.

I just find it crazy that NYC as big as it is can maintained murders rates at just above 3.0, meanwhile Atlanta struggles to drop below 15. Manhattan alone has less murders than the COA while being 20x denser and 4 times the population.

Clearly, we need to take a similar approach to crime that both NYC and LA have done.

Forget those two cities. We need to strive to drop our crime to Tokyo or London's levels.
