Well I hope this does go through for the residents on the southside...I Hate that people still use the the argument 'the ghetto can move north now" BS! the simple thing is this...Atlanta is a MAJOR Urban City and the closer you live to the core then you will always have areas less fortunate than others...You can always move farther out into the countryside and deal with the traffic that Accompanies it...From LA To New York..Public transportation is a nessecity and Clayon along with Cobb And Gwinett are LONG OVERDUE for some Marta Rail Service...Its all about the greater City as a whole Not Just benefits to one side or the other...ATL aint neva gonna get it together lol #TeamMartaExpansionNow

Wow that's a big difference.

I wonder why the default option for the 1% alternative is commuter rail and not heavy rail? That would be a significant downgrade from HRT.

Not now, but if the federal money is still there its the most efficient way to get rail into Clayton.

Heavy rail isn't great for long distances, it is overkill. Commuter rail is just fine for all the way to Lovejoy.

HRT to maybe the international terminal but commuter rail in Clayton is perfect. It could demonstrate how well it could work in other corridors.

Not if they stick with their "Xpress on rails" plan. The only way for commuter rail to prove viable in other corridors is to run an all day system.

I'm assuming, they could do the commuter rail because of the money that state still has for it (unless it's been returned) so it can be a shovel ready project quickly.

Where do they plan on terminating the line in Atlanta without the MMPT?

They can probably throw down a platform on the cheap in the gulch area for a basic startup line. Something like Nashville's central commuter rail station or Seattle's King Street Station. Yes, I know the King Street station is typically thought of as bring a nice grand railway station, but that's only the Amtrak side, the commuter rail side has two stairways to the street from the platforms and that's it. We don't necessarily need a big grand station for a startup line.
