Its amazing that you would attempt to compare your ancestors 1850 CHOICE to come to the U.S. with black americans ancestors who came here as slaves, were torn from their home land, whipped worse than animals, raped, forced to abandon and forget their language, never allowed to stay with mother or father, brother or sister, husband or wife.
When your ancestors had been here 10 years drunk and lazy, slaves were being beaten, sold, bought, auctioned, denied education, all human rights and taught they were inferior and equal to cattle. Generations of being taught you are incapable and inferior and having no clue of your ancestors past beyond slavery or that your African ancestors were jungle dwellers.
Then in 1865, slaves were freed- IN WRITING. I bet your ancestors had already gotten the right to vote and could read. You know we weren't allowed to learn. We spent the next 100 or so years in Jim Crow, while your white skin allowed you the privilege of being seen as a human with something to offer.
As quiet as its kept blacks were still being denied the privileges of citizenship and equal rights in the 1960's. Its why we were fighting for Civil Rights just 40 years ago. What does that mean, it means that when my mother went to the south in the 60's, her colored status meant she was segregated on train, on a bus, in restaurants and in education.
I won't attempt to rob you of the pleasure you may gain by comparing the written end to slavery with the arrival of your ancestors to the ports of NY, I'm sure its just a benefit of being white Irish. You get to ignore what really happened and say forget about slavery because it was 150 years ago, even though the black race was still fighting for equal rights and fighting against the badges of slaverey, in late 1960's. Remember when Martin Luther King, Jr. was out speaking and he was killed because of his efforts to get us the benefits of "freedom". All that really happened and it wasn't 150 years ago.
I explain the blacks who are articulate, successful and in committed family relationships as individuals that have had to fight to attain what your white skin allows you to take for granted and assume is a given. But if they told you what they had to battle against, you wouldn't believe it, because again, your "blue" eyes, won't let you see it.
OK, so it wasn't 150 years- it was 40. So, how much longer can the slavery/equal rights crutch be used then? In another 50 years, will be still be hearing about how "as recently as 90 years ago, blacks were still fighting for equal rights"????
I guess you proved that it is possible. CBS, NBC and ABC are white channels? That is just more crybaby propaganda from the black community when something isn’t all about catering to them.
The fact is that whites are the majority here in the US so expect to see more of that in the mainstream media.
I have a good idea, hopefully one day we are able to pay the entire nation wide black community their reparations for the hardships they endured slaving 200 years ago then the black community can invest in their own black run media outlets.
See how absurd all this sounds?? Yeah, quit bitching.
Also, if you think for one second Al Sharpton and Reverend Jackass aren’t at the top of the racist scale you are crazy. It seems as though the word racism only applies when it can be used against white folks.
I find this ironic in light of the fact that you've pretty much spent this entire thread doing just that. Bitching and moaning about your perceptions of Blacks and how they do nothing but whine and want special treatment at the expense of???? Of course people like you. Yep people of your type of mindset who want to link all of their shortcomings to things like preferential treatment for Blacks and other minorities. Who more than likely view most Blacks in certain positions as being there basically because of some preferences. Yep, you're as transparent as a thin plate of glass.

I think you all are getting a bit too deep for them now. I mean just look at some of the rebuttal for proof.

Ok, so at the risk of looking like a bitching, moaning white boy I shouldn't point out the obvious?
I guess what I'm trying to say is I was only clarifying reasons why less and less people have sympathy for the whole "I'm black so you owe me the shirt off your back" thing...whatever it is you people call it.
There you go, I just gave you the opening you were looking for....time to label me as a racist?

But of course its only "the obvious" if its pointed out by someone like you. By Blacks its whining.
I hear you on your second paragraph though. So much so that I proclaim that we should instead focus on the plight of the angry, victimized white male.
Why would I need to label you? Or even care to. This ain't my first rodeo partna.
What's baffling to me is that the institutionalization of the division of the "black family" has gone on for centuries, and people insist on disregarding it. There was hardly EVER a vested "romantic" fairly tale like existence between black men and women in America. It wasn't allowed for hundreds of years and so to me, it's unreasonable to expect that suddenly, black American families (adult men and women as heads) will magically know how to court and work together in a equitable family environment without 'unique' issues. This of course, is generally speaking. Many adult black women and men have managed to marry and live together happily for decades, my grandparents being one couple that I know personally. I know quite a few others as well. But my family was also of the 'freed, early escaped, black" kind, and so had earlier opportunities to live a so-called "normal" free life, and do normal human things like court freely, fall in love, and pass these ideals down to their children. As far as many blacks' histories are concerned, love and romance were never legal parts of the equation of their existence, and so weren't passed down through generations. Slavery is but a few generations behind us, and so still has an extreme affect on individual families.
Every psychologist in the world will tell you that the success of a current marriage depends on the success of the marriages that came directly before it(that of the parents, grandparents, etc.) within a family. For many blacks, this is serious, perhaps many don't even understand this to be an issue. Whereas in critical times, white women could cling to their men and the men to their women, black women and men were strategically forced to fend for themselves alone. What you now often have is a black women and man, largely indepedent in thought and action. Particularly for black women, who were forced into indepedence for centuries, to raise and suckle black and white children, the American concept of "submitting" to a man and allowing him to lead seems impossible. Additionally, with black males having often been emotionally castrated, it is likely often difficult to come to terms with the psychologically forced creation of black female independence. Anyway, this is my assesment..and it probably should be under a totally different topic but it bothers me that blacks and single parenting is somehow looked at as a 'proof' of something inherently 'wrong' with black Americans. The division of the black family was done strategically, and done well.
Thanks, I appreciate your little tidbit of history. Even know I can’t comprehend it because my little white brain won’t allow for it. I think it is quite obvious blacks have been the only people enslaved, raped and beaten throughout history. I think we may have over analyzed why black marriages don't work though.
Nowww....I'm going out on a limb here but I think in order for 2 people to become wed the male shouldn’t bolt at even a slight inclination the girl has become pregnant.
So in essence I’m saying for a marriage to work, a wedding needs to happen first.
Can that happen? Who knows, from what I have seen it’s much cooler to get “krunk” and find some bicth*s & Hoes rather than get married and start a family.
I feel as though I should be sent to prison for a very long time. If I'm being held accountable for the actions of white people 200 years ago (not even my ancesters) then I may as well do the time shouldn't I?
By the way, pointing out the obvious is a simple exchange of information. "
I use the word “whining” when a person is usually expecting something in return for his/her whining.
Yead you'd be surprised. It's like I'm almost not Black or something. I don't eat fried chicken several times a week and watermelon is way down on my list of favorite fruits. I've also been married for seven years, have a son with my wife and we own a home. Plus I don't speak of ******* and hoes and can't even define the word krunk. I even think that blondes totally rock dude and I can't stand women named Kisha and such with those big booties. They're just fat.

once again... the point I was making is that my parents and I did not have to flee Ireland and come to the states only to suffer the indignities of being homeless, jobless, and treated as something less than human. That was some relative 150 years ago. I have not let what happened to them shape my life. I have taken responsibility for my own future.
You and your parents didn't come here from Africa. That was some relative 150 years ago. Do you let it shape your life? Or, do you do everything in your power to provide a good life for your family so that each generation can do better than the last?
Why do so many people like to stare at the past instead of looking toward the future??? Where does it get them?
