That article should probably be captioned "Who are Atlanta's recently re-named streets named after?"

Most of these new names are only a few decades old.

I've always been surprised that we don't have a street named after William Hartsfield, who was mayor for a quarter century. He's been deceased long enough to be honored with a street. Maynard Jackson was mayor for 12 years and he's getting close to that status, too.

I know they've got the airport but is that it? Cynthia McKinney was only in office 4 years and she's got a road named after her.

I thought that parkway was renamed? Hell, even Israel didn't want her.

Makes folks feel better to run over Cynthia McKinney road since it's illegal to run over the real thing!

You have the wrong McKinney. It was named after her father:

A portion of Interstate 285 is known as the "James E. "Billy" McKinney Highway" between I-20 in northwest Atlanta and I-75 near Cumberland Mall

On this topic though, nothing grinds me more than the 8 foot long street names this city has. There should be a resolution passed to change all of them just to the last name, except for MLK.

Different road. A section of Memorial Drive in DeKalb County was renamed Cynthia McKinney Parkway.

I know about Billy McKinney and the parkway named after him.

However, Memorial Drive was also re-named after Cynthia. I think they tried to change it back after 9/11.
