More coverage: Massive Midtown Project Tweaked For Greater Connectivity - Development Du Jour - Curbed Atlanta

Quote:
At the base of those towers, plans now call for a grid system with wide sidewalks and parallel parking — a "boulevard feel" meant to foster the retail element, one official told the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Should agreements with adjacent property owners such as Cousins Properties and Hines come through, we can expect a "Spanish Steps"-inspired stairway connecting to One Atlantic Center, a new road to West Peachtree Street and paths cutting to 15th Street and other sky-rises in the neighborhood, the newspaper reports.

I think it would be more fun if everything in midtown was connected with shopping malls lined with retail like the way they connect casinos in Las Vegas.

Are these shopping mall corridors separated from the street, like an underground pedestrian system or skybridge system? If so it is a terrible idea, since it will take people off the streets.

I hope the project stills happen for the construction proposal to be in 2015, leave time for alot of things to change, and we have all seen magnificent plans that never came to fruition. Example the Trump Towers, and Mandarin Hotel.

I think Midtown Atlanta is the perfect and will probably be even stronger by 2015 and beyond.
