We are looking to move to East Cobb for theschools and have found a house that we like in the Sope Creek ES zone. We have reviewed schooldigger and greatschools already. We have also toured allthe East Cobb elementary schools and, frankly, liked Sope Creek the least. However, it is closest to our jobs incommuting to the perimeter area. Werealize that all the East Cobb schools have a good reputation, which has beenwell covered on City Data. We do notknow anyone personally in East Cobb, so we would be most appreciative ofanyone's experiences and impressions who actually have kids that attend theschool or have very recently attended Sope Creek. We will have a kindergartener with speechdifficulties (already under an IEP), so any insight into speech services (andreading specialist services) at the school would most appreciated. We would also be interested in gettingimpressions on how test prep is handled at the school in terms of whether theteachers are in the position that they have to focus too much on testprep. Finally, there is anotherpotential house in the Timber Ridge ES zone, and we did like Timber Ridge ES. How is the commute from there to theperimeter during the typical commuting hours? Please message me if you are not comfortable posting publicly. Many thanks.

To help you better...

What are the reasons you disliked Sope Creek?

And--what do you like about the other schools?

In addition to Timber Ridge, were there other schools that you particularly liked?

I think the commute time isn't that different that it should be the deciding factor and I would go with the school you like better. I have a kid at Mt. Bethel (public) and one at Timber Ridge and really like the smaller size at Timber Ridge--the principal is fantastic and my daughter has had 2 great teachers so far, and my older daughter liked the 5th grade teachers there as well. Which middle and high school is the Sope Creek house zoned for? I have a friend who liked sope creek but was not happy with East Cobb Middle and is trying to somehow get her other child into Hightower Trail (not sure exactly how that works and no guarantee she can do it, plus transportation will be a pain). I do know other families who are happy with Sope Creek.

Re: test prep--I doubt there is much difference at any of these schools, I think it could be less but not as bad as some places.

Sope Creek feeds about 65% to Dickerson MS/Walton HS and 35% to East Cobb MS/Wheeler HS.

You should definitely go with the school that you like the best and that you think is best for your children and your family.

If Timber Ridge Elementary is the school that you like the best then you should definitely go with it as Timber Ridge is one of the absolute best elementary schools in the entire state of Georgia.

The commutes between the Timber Ridge ES district and the Perimeter Center area is about roughly the same as the commute between the Sope Creek ES district and the Perimeter Center area, so commuting times and distances should not necessarily be a concern when it comes to comparing the two schools, particularly if you like Timber Ridge the most and think that it may be a really good fit for your family.

But if Sope Creek was the school that you liked the least then you probably should NOT move into that district and send your children to that school.

I will say that according to everything I am hearing you need to prepared to move very quickly on a house- people are getting offers for asking price the day houses are listed.

Wanted to add, if a home comes up in Mt. Bethel zone, we have been very happy with the STs there. I do not have experience at the other schools. Timber Ridge did win an award (Blue Ribbon something or other) a few years ago that I believe reflected well on the reading specialist. You could call the school and ask more about it.
