Honestly I feel the one especially about Chicago is misleading. You can find many apartments there for less than $1k on Zillow. I did a quick search and found a few in the Pilsen neighborhood and even a couple in Andersonville which is a highly sought after neighborhood there. Also Lake View has apartments for less than $1k. The article mentioned that apartment being in Lake Meadows, which is a popular area for students in Chicago and when I was looking into rentals there for a particular reason I won't get into, I saw rentals in the $700 to $1k range for a 1bd. Two bedrooms were $1k to $1500. You can find something cheaper than that in many areas of Chicago that are centrally located and one has to remember there is more "central" in Chicago than Atlanta so there are more options there in the city.

SHHHHH!!!! Don't post this information or the landlord will raise the rent on me!!! They want to make money off us poor folk. I don't want a New York rent to pay. No way. Can't afford it or I would still be up in NJ. with a better job.

So they're comparing high rent with outrageous rent. Spin it how you want, renting is becoming less and less affordable. And no it doesn't have to do with price index if rent has gone up 33% but wages rose 12 smh.

Only because people aren't building apartments fast enough and if they do every single one them attempts to brand themselves as " luxury" so they charge a lot with their particle board walls and Ikea kitchens.

There is a market for just some regular normal middle classed priced apartments that are in good condition and reasonable amenities, but no one is building them.....if I only had couple of million to invest.
