Some people can't accept reality or actual data for that matter. "BUT BUT BUT...(city X) is more popular with international visitors and (city Y) is more popular with vacationers". Sounds like whining to me. The trolls just can't allow a positive thread about Atlanta without some whining.

There is no difference regarding economic impact, but I'm sure someone will come up with something.

Because I look at it from an objective viewpoint. I don't let me homerism or boosterism get in the way of understanding what information is being given to me. Essentially, I don't take this data at face value and run away with it bragging.

It's hard for me to objectively and logically believe Atlanta is the 4th most popular city among tourists when it has NYC, LA, Chicago, Miami, Vegas, and SF to get through first. This doesn't include D.C. or Boston either.

I didn't think about this until now. Are all the people visiting the airport or Stone mountain or Centennial Park? Where are all the tourists to Atlanta visiting? Maybe lets compare with Statue of Liberty or Washington Monument or the Lincoln Monument or the Empre State Building.

A tourist is more willing to spend more time in a city and spend more money than a visitor who is seeing family or here simply for a convention or particular event.

Yes - I agree. If I am a tourist in a city, I pay money to go to museums and other attractions. I eat in different restaurants. I might buy the kids souvenirs, may go to a musical or play. But, if I am visiting a city for business, I generally don't do those things, and generally limit my dining to the very basics. To me, that's the difference.

Just because something is hard for you to believe does not mean it isn't true. Atlanta is in a great location and we get many people coming here for many different reasons.

That's exactly my point and what separates a tourist from a visitor. I'm sure in that 42 million number, there a certain percentage that are tourists, but a lot of that visitor number are those here for business or conventions or simply visiting family.

You put it much more eloquently than I did. I'm not very good at throwing my point out there in a way that everyone can understand clearly.
