As the last of the Atlanta Streetcar rail is laid, the project has already attracted significant interest and investment to the corridor. Central Atlanta Progress and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District have been leveraging the streetcar by encouraging redevelopment along its route. As a co-funder, the Downtown District expects the project to do much more than just improve transportation mobility and access; our desire is for it to be an incredible economic generator that will transform our neighborhood.

A streetcar named Desire

It's feels good to read some news about the positive economic impact of the streetcar.

Something positive about downtown coming from AJC, I am shocked!

The piece stated $350 million of development has been completed within a 5 minute walk of the streetcar and another $300 million+ is under construction.

Can it be directly attributed to the streetcar or are they making an assumption based on timing?

I think Atlanta is getting prepared for a huge boom bigger than the 80's and 90's. Can't wait for the New Atlanta to arrive!!!!

The AJC loves jumping on the bandwagon at the last minute. I wish we had a real newspaper in this city.

Curbed, Creative Loafing, and the Business Chronicle are much more interesting to me. The AJC has really gone down hill. I don't read much if any of it anymore.

Wow, I read this, and thought I'd written it myself. I also prefer those sources now, and if I could find an alternative for Atlanta sports news (in addition to the fan sites like Hawksquawk.net), I wouldn't read AJC at all.
