Just got another rate increase for the AJC (home delivery plus the "free" digital)--now going to be $28 a month. I've subscribed to a newspaper all my adult life and it would be weird not getting it anymore, but I'm beginning to think it's not worth $1 a day. The paper has shrunk to just a few pages. I don't even use the coupons in the Sunday paper to offset the cost! And it seems like there is some online access to a lot of the paper, even if you don't subscribe.

If you don't read the newspaper, where do you get local and national/international news from? TV? (That's another issue---I don't like to watch TV.)

The free online access is very restricted. All the interesting stories they have moved behind the pay wall.

Just Google the 1st sentence,
odds are the myajc story is out on the AP wire, and is one some far off newspaper's website.

I still get the AJC, and I use the coupons. I also get the NY Times on sunday. Getting a physical paper is a hard habit to break because i have been reading the paper since I was a kid, and reading the paper online is just not the same.

I think it's extremely important to stay tied into your local community.

Being a major hypocrite, I don't subscribe to the AJC. I went to buy a couple a few weeks ago on a weekday and was horrified by how tiny it has become. It felt like I was visiting my parents and buying a copy of the St. Augustine Record!

I guess it's a sign of the times. But I do think that newspapers are still vital because they have more content than the online versions, at least in an easier to navigate way, and I have learned a lot by reading the paper.

I'm actually the opposite of most people....I never subscribed before, but I was thinking about starting to.

Trust me, you'll miss it if it goes away.
