The photo posted here earlier is very helpful as a reference for the site. The nearby communications tower seen there that is in the cener of that block & on the hill has been mentioned here twice. I don't know if it's in use by a cable company or what but it would be sort of an eyesore for someone in a north facing unit in this newly proposed project. A smaller companion tower was removed from that same hill top site 2 years ago.
On W. Peachtree, directly north of the proposed site, there is a long derelict 3-4 story old cable tv facility I used to visit to occasionally pay my bill or drop off old equipment back in the 1990's. It's been a vacant eyesore there on W. Peachtree for a long time & I look at it every day as I ride by in my GRTA Express bus. I hope that it will soon meet it's demise. Perhaps this new project will speed up the arrival of that day!

I think we agree, but I don't think you understood my point. I was referring to why would a person come to or from Cobb and expect to get sandwich from a drive thru in Midtown. Which was Arjay's false dilemma.

Yes, I agree.

I'm sure the detractors will be disappointed even more that the "urbanists" are "winning". Such a shame.

I'm a Cobb resident, who works in Perimeter but frequents midtown quite often. It's actually a shorter (time) drive from my house to midtown than downtown Marietta.

Thats exactly what I was thinking too. Its hard to generalize but certainly many come into the city for a nice dinner or whatever it is they enjoy and from Cumberland its an easy drive.

I, too, will lament no longer being able to eat garbage food from a drive-thru in my car in the middle of Midtown. Oh, the lamentations...

jsvh, I know there are plenty of sit-down options but I suspect there's still a place for drive-thrus. I've mentioned a couple of situations -- the Midtown worker who wants to grab a bite for a long commute home, or the Midtown resident who wants a biscuit to tide him over for the drive to work or school in Cobb.

You've also got the situation where people have come in from the suburbs to party in Midtown, and they want something quick to eat on the way home but don't have time to park, walk to a restaurant and sit down.

I doubt that any of these are rare occurrences.

Maybe the powers that be in Midtown want to totally eradicate drive-thru convenience and if so that is their prerogative. But it's worth considering whether you kill the goose that laid the golden egg in the process.

It is an eyesore, period. I've disliked that tower ever since I moved to the metro area in 2005. I'll be happy to see it gone someday.

They should put a smaller tower on top of one of the new buildings, and call it a day.

Yuck, the others look good but that one has a modern look to it or commie-block style if it were Eastern Europe. Something out of the 60s. Sometimes I wonder what developers are thinking of. They did the same kind of thing on Marietta Street just north of Northside Dr. There's a beautiful brick development on one side of Marietta St, then on the other side, an ugly modern commie-block style building.

All they'd have to do is make a few corners rounded and put better windows at the bottom (floors 2-4, it looks like) such as with half-moon tops, and it'd look ten times better. I hope for everyone's sake they modify the design before it goes vertical. That tends to happen.
