Westside Trail // Atlanta BeltLine

New plans and renders:

New Westside Trail Renderings Predict Beltline Utopia! - Beltline Beat - Curbed Atlanta

Today:

Trail:

Transit:

Quote:
Last September, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Atlanta an $18 million TIGER V grant to develop the Beltline's southwest corridor. The trail will snake from Washington Park to Adair Park with 14 points of entry, utilizing the existing West End Trail in the West End neighborhood. Expect a 14-foot-wide concrete multi-use trail similar to the madly popular eastside one. Officials say construction should take about 18 months, meaning the trail could open in the spring of 2016.

Updated renderings needed. Not enough people stopping to talk in the middle of the trail while their dog makes a tripline with his leash.

Are the Beltline people predicting that the west side will gentrify like the east side has done?

red92, that's funny! If the dogs had their way humans would keep moving instead of standing around jawboning.

I'm not sure what exactly they expect to happen, but it will be a different than how the Eastside Trail has been developing.

It will improve* in some areas at different rates. I think the Westside Trail will end up being a lot more spotty than the Eastline Line. The are many good neighborhoods, some worn but tons of potential, and some rough ones. But as with anything else, the little gems turn into little hot spots which influences their neighbors, it turn making whole areas of town desirable.

The Westside probably won't have the exact story or time line of the Eastside trail. But that's not really a bad thing. It is has the force behind it to be a game changer. It will be immensely interesting to watch happen.

*improve - A strong, safe, desirable neighborhood. I hope prices don't skyrocket, I hope there is not some sort of massive demographic shift. Maybe more than just real estate speculators/developers can benefit from this public investment.

Beautiful renderings. Can't wait to see it materialize.

I'm bummed that our corner of the Beltline seems to be the very last piece that will be developed, and we will likely be long gone before it happens. Blast. You win some, you lose most.

Atlanta BeltLine Westside Trail Reaches Major Milestone // Atlanta BeltLine

Quote:
On June 30, the Atlanta BeltLine Westside Trail project reached a major project milestone. Working with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the City of Atlanta and a team of design and engineering consultants led by Kimley-Horn & Associates, Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI) met the federal deadline of June 30 to complete final design and land acquisition for the multi-use trail in southwest Atlanta. By meeting this deadline, the $18 million TIGER V grant for the $43 million Westside Trail, is now secure for the project’s implementation. In just nine months, ABI and its partners executed a complex process of design, land acquisition, environmental clearance and other approvals by the state and federal governments that often exceeds 24 months for projects of this magnitude.

In addition to the $18 million TIGER V grant and $15 million of other state and local funding, the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership is leading a $10 million private fundraising effort.
Of the $$43 million cost for the Westside trail, only $15m is being provided by state and local taxes. Once again the Beltline proves itself to be an exceptional steward of public dollars.
