I'd like to see the Turner Field property redeveloped in a more positive way. The city needs more affordable housing, not just $1500 a month one bedrooms.

The housing competent of the development will not be that expensive and will target students.

There is already plenty of affordable housing right around there. Two-bedrooms for $600 affordable. That is the sort of rent my place was going for before I bought it.

This is revisionist history by the mayor. The braves move caught him completely by surprise. He thought they had no other options and was actually trying to get money FROM the braves. What a joke.

It was really dumb of Cobb to give the braves $400 million, but don't act like it was some genius budgetary move from this clown. He said he didn't want to write a $200 million check to a sports team! WTF? He did that literally weeks earlier for the falcons!

This has been re-hased over and over in lots of threads if you do a search you can find many responses and counter responses. Quick and dirty is: Falcons deal is not great and I prefer they got $0, but not as bad as it is just existing funds that were maintaining the Dome. CoA got a new stadium for the cost of maintaining the Dome. Negotiations had been going on for months because of what the Braves were asking for, but yes, they backed out in the middle of negotiations and it was a surprise.

You're missing the point; this thread isn't about the Braves moving to Cobb, it's about the redevelopment of Turner Field.

Absolutely!

The mayor keeps using the term Middle Class to describe the development. I'm really hoping that this is followed through with. It would be great to have something new that isn't just for those with high disposable incomes or housing vouchers.

I'm totally ok with Georgia State University taking up that entire area. Those children in that area need to have the sense of what it feels like when a college/university is right across the street, and to see college students in the grocery stores, etc. nearby. For most of those children, they may have NEVER met anyone who has gone to college and may think it is completely unattainable. Putting a college and these students in proximity of this neighborhood will be phenomenal, I think. The college students will likely also do much community service with the children and adults in the area. This area needs a university presence. And college students are not rich by a long shot. Especially those going to Georgia State University. That university is not exactly a magnet for the children of the rich and famous in Atlanta. It is a very affordable state school with entry requirements that are very attainable for many graduating seniors. It is not a school only for the upper crust by no means. And the demographics racially and socio-economically are very good, I believe, relative to Ga colleges/universities in general.
