I don't understand the "Atlanta has too much going on" quote.

I suppose they mean the City is too busy. The series focuses on this small town, so filming scenes on a busy street would be counter intuitive.

I pass by this set twice a day when I commute, and sometimes more than that on my jogs.

Norcross proper is small, so its probably a lot less of a bureacratic hassle to get streets temporarily closed off, or permission to have equipment out in yards for days on end.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before filming comes to a town near you!

Probably has, for most people here. It already had come to Smyrna for a few things. It's already been in conyers, Covington, Atlanta, etc. Metro Atlanta offers a lot of diversity for filming sites.

Not quite sure what the point of this thread is.

A lot of TV shows filmed locally actually film outside the city. Vampire Diaries is OTP off I-20 on the east side. The Originals is out in Conyers. Drop Dead Diva is in Peachtree City. The Walking Dead is in Senoia. It's pretty typical. It's going to be more expensive, and more logistically difficult to film in the city.
