But those looking into the record to see how it all went down were surprised that there was a dearth of records about the negotiations. That’s because the Braves, the Chamber, the bond lawyer and Lee kept their communications off the county email system and didn’t create official paperwork, keeping it outside the reach of Georgia’s Open Records Act.
Now this is a prime example of ethical leadership. /s

Hell, this is pretty entertaining!

- Ol Timmy was apparently trying to keep his interactions with McRae, the lawyer he wasn't allowed to hire, off the records. They do so by sending emails through Cobb Chamber email accounts which apparently are not subject to open records requests.

- McRae works on the negotiations with the Braves for Tim thinking he will get hired to finish the negotiations once it is out in the open, some of this work has McRae's name on it.

- When asked by an AJC reporter about McRae's name being on the documents, Tim denies working with McRae and implies that McRae is some desperate attention starved lawyer attaching his name to documents he had nothing to do with.

- Reporter calls McRae and tells him Tim's response.

- McRae forwards the "off the record" email to the official "on the record" email account of Tim Lee. Now its subject to an open records request.

Quote:
The next business day, McRae sent a mysterious email to Dance on her official Cobb account. It also went to the Chamber guy and to Lee’s private email account. There was no message in the email other than an Oct. 8, 2013, email pasted into the body. The October email was where Lee effectively hired Seyfarth Shaw for the Braves project.

With one mouse click, McRae had put the smoking-gun email within reach of the media and the public. It was either a bush-league slip-up or a masterly stroke of passive-aggressive retaliation.
Pass me the popcorn Gulch...

Amazing. Can't wait to see how Tim Lee tries to spin clear evidence that he lied about illegally hiring the lawyer.

This is all good theatre, but the Braves are still moving to Cobb County. So, I wouldn't get all excited about the imminent fall of Tim Lee if I were you guys.

Well, I'm sure the IRS is getting away with it, they might as well give it a try!

I get the feeling they wouldn't be welcomed back with open arms at this point anyways. Especially considering the price tag...THEY CAN HAVE 'EM.
