Smyrna's government is considering allowing same sex couples benefits when they work for the government. It's a great sign for the metro area tolerance for LGBT, and a huge step forward for Cobb county, who years back were banned from hosting any events for the Olympics for official proclamations about homosexuals. Obviously, this doesn't mean a huge shift for the entire county, since Smyrna is of course the most progressive part of the county.

constitutionally bans same-sex marriage and civil unions , although there is a lawsuit in federal court seeking to overturn the ban; in addition, there are few to no anti-discrimination protections at the state level for LGBT persons. Hopefully this all changes within the next year or two!

Don't forget City of East Point. we provide Domestic Partnership benefits and have since at least 2010, I think. We are also one of only 3 cities in Georgia with a Mayor (Jannquell Peters) that has publicly and unequivocally stated support for Same Sex Marriage.
