I am almost without words right now.

I am sure you had to comprehend that the person you quoted said that the options on Buford Hwy were being eliminated as well. I'm all for the grocery store as I said from the get go because it is obvious they need one in that area. Even though it does not have a thing to do with me, I am not blind or insensitive to the plight of others; that's called empathy.

I think that being forcefully uprooted from your home is stressful so I feel for them. I also think saying find something on Buford Hwy or ClayCo is an insult to those areas because pretty much what you're saying is that what you consider the LCD (least common denominator not liquid crystal display) of the population should just get in where they fit in.

That's just rude.

What worries me is that they are forcing out many Latino immigrants that had affordable and transit accessible housing. The same is happening up the Buford Hwy corridor now. Where do these folks go?
As I understand it, the NPU supported a grocery store but was pushing for a more urban form to comply with the TOD zoning in that area. However Kroger wanted to build its standard suburban style store and the city said okay.

I agree with you about the Latino residents in the existing apartments. Where will they go? Wonder if the developer has some sort of relocation program for them?

Now that I have taken some time to think about this I agree this development does suck lol. He could have put apartments on top of the Walmart or something besides what is planned. Well my transplant friends that live in the area are extremely happy to have a Kroger there so it is what it is

I guess us regular working class folks can't have anything in this god forsaken city. Y'all talk about these latino immigrants like they're roaches or something... I can't with this forum anymore...

I used to live very near the area in Morningside. A grocery store in that area will be useful and convenient. The closest Publix (on Cheshire Br rd) has a small footprint, small parking lot, is a pain to get in and out of, and frequently runs out of various items.

A big suburban-style Kroger will draw a lot of people fed up with not finding the items they want without having to drive 10-20 minutes down the road.

The problem is the very same problem that every other gentrification project (I'm going to go ahead and call it that) in the last twenty or so years has caused: Where will the displaced people go? Affordable housing for the deeply poor and the working poor is an ever-worsening and woefully unaddressed problem. Having reasonable access to basic goods and services should not just be a privilege for those who can afford it.

No bar? KroNar is still cooler. Now for the important part, what will it's nickname be?

If you ask me, it looks about like the rest of Lindbergh Center. Unoriginal, uninviting and totally unworthy of being cited as an example of New Urbanism, which is what Fuqua and Sembler would have you believe.
Believe NOTHING regarding the city's support of responsible zoning and development. The much ballyhooed resurgence of the Cheshire Bridge Corridor has yielded so far the usual cookie-cutter apartment development, two more storage facilities and an AutoZone. Whoopie.
