I am new to ATL, and this incident kind of freaks me out a bit. I live very close by this apartment and now feel a bit concerned about safety. Our apartment 2 blocks away has a very similar security system.

Is this just an isolated incident, or are such shootings common over here ?

Being that you have over 7k posts in less than a year on CD, I am almost certain you have already done your research on this area. Crime (shootings) are not common in Midtown, but shootings do happen. This is also not a random shooting, they believe all parties knew each other. And You should always be concerned about safety no matter where you are around Metro Atlanta.

You'll find a lot more shooting in the suburban areas of the city and surrounding counties than you will in Midtown.

That being said, it's hard to imagine a party in a luxury highrise resulting in gunfire.

Crime can happen anywhere anyplace.. they had a murder in Beverly Hills a few years back a lady was shot driving her Mercedes convt. in Beverly Hills. If you p.iss somebody off you can get murdered in any place. Most crime in upscale areas are domestic related or somebody owns somebody a boat load of money. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Have a blessed day.

Did you read the article?

Specifically this:

Channel 2 reports that police believe all parties involved knew each other because everyone left the building after the shooting happened. Several people told Channel 2 that a music video shoot was going on at the time of the shooting, but police have yet to confirm that information.

Therefore, this was not random nor was it a forced entry. I'm not saying crime does not and will not occur( I don't live there, yet) but I don't think I would be too concerned. Than again, I've lived in more than one major city so I'm not easily "shaken" by crime as many are.

Well, I would have assumed that people living in a luxury intown highrise are not the type to engage in gunfire at a party.

But perhaps these millennials are wilder than I thought.

Crime can happen anywhere people.. they just and a murder in Beverly Hills a few years back on the streets... yes the killer streets of Beverly Hills. Domestic disputes happen in rich high rises and wealthy burbs all the time as well. I don't see what is so shocking about it.

Using "luxury" to describe Skyhouse = dubious reporting

While any murder is not good, the city of Atlanta murder rates has been shockingly low. It is so rare for a murder to happen in Downtown/Midtown Atlanta.
