I always thought it was bc Atlanta should really be on Central time as far west as it is within the country (relative to where the northeast cities sit). When I lived in the northeast it was just as bright in the morning as when I lived in Cali.
atlanta's time is closer to the "center" of eastern time than it is to the "center" of central time; that's why we're eastern.

Is the humidity that unbearable where you are constantly wet the moment you step out? I have been to Miami and it was fairly bad but I was not too bothered with it. I'm originally not from SoCal and grew up in the Tropics so I can handle humidity to a certain extent...
If the heat and humidity of Miami didn't bother you too much then you would definitely be fine in Atlanta which is less hot and less humid. During the warm time of year rain mostly shows up late in the afternoon in the form of thunderstorms and usually only last at most an hour or two so you have all day for outdoor activities on most of the days it rains and it doesn't rain every day. During the cold or cooler months it's not unusual for it to rain all or most of a day sometimes but you have more days where it's not raining.

Thanks for the info. It rains quite a bit in LA in the late winter/spring months as well. Last year it rained quite a lot from Jan through March and once my entire street was flooded by knee deep water. The roads here are not designed for rain and flooding is common, not only that entire homes fall off the cliffsides when it rains.

February 2014:

We have many overcast and gloomy days as well, many many of them. June gloom is very common. Recently heat and humidity have made an appearance here as well. This upcoming weekend is forecast to reach close to 100F...thankfully not too humid but the problem is that many apartments here including mine do not have air conditioning.

Southern California climate patterns are changing for the worse due to global warming, it's remarkably different from the mild Mediterranean climate that used to be the norm in the late 90s. The weather is becoming increasingly unpredictable.

The point that I am trying to make is that LA weather is probably one of the most hyped thing I have ever heard in my life. While I acknowledge that the weather here overall is better than anywhere else in the country it is not some climate controlled utopia that people make it out to be. We have MANY MANY very sh!tty days, incessant rains when I can't do anything outdoors, flooding, smog, pollution (LA is the most polluted airspace in the country), brushfires etc. Would someone pay a 25% premium to live here, probably. Would someone pay a 200% premium to live here? Some do, but personally I think that is asinine.

Yeah I remember seeing all the flooding on the news last year but I thought that was just a freak occurrence. In fact I was always under the impression that Southern California got very little rain and if not for all the damed up Rocky Mountain water they have piped in from out of state they wouldn't have enough for farming or drinking. Or maybe I was mistaken.

These muscles must be the facial "scowl muscles". We exercise those muscles a lot in the upper Midwest. Last winter was so bad even the KIDS started grumping when they would look outside and learn it was snowing again.
