cant really build atop of those train stations especially midtown. north ave maybe but that would be a hassle to get in and out same with arts center. Mixed used would definitely be difficult though especially the way the train stations are built. I can't wait to see the ideas they come up with and how they would ease people into the construction phase around the station because its gonna be a lot of angry people

They can be built, carefully.

I've heard (secondhand, don't quote me on it) that the proposed mixed-use development going in next to the Edgewood-Candler Park MARTA isn't going over well with the Inman Park and Candler Park neighborhood organizations.

I do not now why it is any concern of theirs since the development falls entirely in Edgewood and NPU-O.

I think they are concerned about traffic spillover to Dekalb and Whitefoord/Oakdale. No, it's not their NPU, but conceivably they could go to the zoning review board later on.

(not that they should, IMO...I think it's a good plan so far).

There is always that possibility, but I don't see them raising these concerns with the condo build out on DeKalb next to the fire station.

I would be willing to go through the hassle of maybe temporarily closing or making a different exit for each station. Great vision!

Default Neighborhoods aren't ever happy ... these stations seem like a good idea

Developments never go over well with neighborhood organizations.

If progress is ever made, its in spite of these associations. Even the best planned projects create both economic winners and losers. Somehow the losers always have the lounder voice; therefore, these organizations always ere on the side of the status quo rather than expend political capital in looking for win-win scenarios.

... And as far as the over-topping of these marta stations it seems completely doable. Access could easily be restricted to allow for construction activities. Besides the actual platforms, these stations are roomy, grandiose and, generally, vacant. Many stations in New York that handle much higher volume aren't much more than a hole in the sidewalk with a single staircase.

Different time period and it was built by a private company. MARTA was built as a commuter/subway hybrid.
