UPS said it is hiring 90,000 to 95,000 seasonal workers — nearly double the 55,000 it hired last year.

The Sandy Springs-based shipping giant said the seasonal positions are “often an entry point to long-term UPS employment.” The company says it needs package sorters, loaders, delivery helpers and drivers for the seasonal jobs throughout the United States.

Was a driver helper one Christmas break in college. Lots of fun, but I got lucky as I got a more rural route. If you do a route with big neighborhoods, expect to grab as many packages as you can and run to house after house. Lots and lots of running.

You can loose the freshman 15 and makes some money.. win-win!

I did it two years ago up in East Cobb, the pay stunk but I had a great driver and met some very nice people along our route. Definitely makes you appreciate how much UPS drivers work.

I remember the pay being pretty good, something like $9 an hour. But this was over 10 years ago.

It hasn't gone up. I was paid $8.50/hr, and my driver said that's what they were paying the helpers when he started at UPS...in 1989.

As far as I know, drivers at UPS are teamsters.

How much do they make? And do they put doors on the trucks during the winter? I'm surprised the union hasn't made them enclose the drivers for comfort and safety.

Seasoned drivers make low six-figures, but they're working 50-60 hours/week. The trucks have sliding side doors.

?????!!!!!!!???????!!!!!!!!

Why did I go to college?

That's awesome!

I thought the DOT had very specific restrictions on how many hours truck drivers could work. How do they get away with working them that hard?

But hell if i could make 6-figures to do a skilled labor job, I don't think I'd mind the 50-60 hour week! Can I sort packages this season and be driving a truck by next year's season? That would be awesome.

I think it takes a year or two of sorting packages to get to be a driver. But sorting packages... that's not a walk in the park. Insane hours and incredibly demanding work. Being a driver isn't really easy either. Seems like one of those jobs that would wear your body out very quickly and you would pay for it at a later age. I'm glad they pay them so well.

My brother and his college roommate worked for UPS as drivers while they were in school. I don't know how the hours worked out around classes, but it must have been part time afternoons/evenings. I think the pay was pretty good given their skills at that time and they did it for two years so clearly they didn't have any complaints.

My aunt worked there for all of two weeks last November. The driver was a male, and she got frustrated for having to haul all the packages while he sat in the truck.
