hello everyone, happy new year!

my husband and i will be moving to the atlanta area in a few months as he will be working near the 285/20 interchange. we will be renting.

for starters (most important to us right now), where is the SAFEST area to start looking that is not too far from here? how about the safest in general, even if it's a bit of a drive? what is the cost to rent in any of these locations?

when it comes to renting, we may very well need month to month. is that even heard of/hard to find there?

other things of interest:

i am a vegan and would love to be near various restaurants and health food stores (or within reason) and possibly even obtain employment with a place like this. what neighborhoods would be good for this....again, keeping with the SAFETY factor.

we're musicians....what's the scene like? where is it most happening?

so to wrap this up, safety comes first but distance is important (285/20) and to be able to live in a convenient location based on our interests would just be helpful

thank-you, kindly.

By review, I would suggest Little 5 Points.

285 and 20 intersect in two different locations (east and west). Which side will you be on?

Mableton, Smyrna and Vinings are all slightly north of west 285 and 20, this is also the Marietta area. There are lots of houses, apartments and condos for rent at reasonable prices. A good friend of mine moved to Mableton with her husband had a baby and loves it. She is near lots of new shopping Home Depot and such but has a nice neighborhood, space, etc. Good Luck!

You can find vegans, vegetarians and musicians scattered all thoughout the metro. There is Life Grocery, Harry's Farmer's Market, Whole Foods and a Trader Joe's in Marietta. Little 5 Points has a co-op grocery www.sevananda.com and is a very hip area. This area is also call L5P, Inman Park or Ormewood.

Use Craigslist to search around these areas. Since the onslaught of Craigslist the Creative Loafing and AJC classifieds have been meager for both housing and jobs.

Also take a look at Austell along with what the person above just mentioned. There are also some extended stay places in South Cobb.
