The Smyrna Vision Plan was completed and is here: http://www.smyrnavision.com/files/sm...plan_final.pdf

Some major topics for recommendations are about schools, community involvement and about complete streets, trails, diversity (housing and people), image, walkable development and transportation (including MARTA).

They're having a community meeting this March 24 at 7PM in City Hall. Should be interesting to hear their plans for the next 5-10 years. Lots of projects going on.

Also, they just purchased that Raymond Reed home on Atlanta rd. for 2 mil. The mayor and 1 council member were missing. What gives with that?

I apologize in advance for being a smart alek, but does the name of this thread remind any one else of an eye care plan for the people of southeast Cobb County?

Among the items in their plan, improving South Cobb Drive should be among them. It's mostly an eyesore (no vision puns please...)

Annoyingly QT just opened a new location just down S Cobb from the old one and guess what, now the old ones sites closed (also I preferred that location and the new location is too awkward and I likely won't use it just like I didn't use the Texico that was there).

In any case, QT just added to the variety of ugliness on that dots that road through Smyrna...

The new one is much less convenient for sure. There is a sign outside of the old QT showing a rendering of a medical office going there. But you're right, it looks bad now, as does the abandoned hospital. South Cobb drive and the areas West of it are the ugliest parts of Smyrna by far, but it is what it is.

The abandoned hospital has been bought outright by Emory. Emory owned ~ 35-40% of Emory Adventist and the church owned the other 60-65%.

Given Emory's merger with Wellstar and desire for a bigger footprint in Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding, Emory decided to purchase the church's share and they are now considering what is the best use for that hospital building.

They also have to consider the 180k sq ft "health park" that Wellstar is building at ATL Rd/285. That project was already planned before the Emory merger and the combined Emory-Wellstar leadership will have to decide how to best incorporate the Atl Rd/285 health park w/ the S.Cobb Drive hospital.

Either way, Emory will do something with that hospital property in the next year or 2.

Drive thru Smyrna everyday and not impressed with the area. Looks like every other suburb in America. They need to do something to stay competitive. Why is there not better CCT coverage to nodes of activity? How can MARTA serve the area without Cobb passing the sales tax?

Smyrna is fairly un-even, if you accept the Village as it's center. I am encouraged with all of the residential construction, which should improve population density metrics and hopefully lead to more retail and commercial development. Specifically, there are three townhome communities currently under construction on or near South Cobb. Also, Smyrna Grove and Belmont Hills roughly demark the northern corners of the city with large, residential communities. Finally, don't forget that the city is trying to wrap up the Concord Road development between South Cobb and Atlanta.

The eyesores should be temporary.

I certainly hope there are no plans to touch the Windy Hill Road corridor. Heaven knows, it's perfect as is!!!

Did anybody actually read that report? I wonder how much they paid to have it produced.
