A tub in the master is still a major priority for me. I like a good soak after a tough workout, long run or major yard work.

I want that tub in my master bedroom and not in the guest bath which is not on the same floor!

My wife takes baths at least once or twice a week so she wouldn't let us buy a house without one. I might use it once or twice a year myself.

If you don't want the tub, you can always take it out and expand the shower or whatever. But, you can't put a tub in if you don't have the space. My house is Connecticut did not have room for a tub in the master and it was a big disadvantage for resale, especially at certain price-points.

I could deal with it if there was another tub in the house. A house with no tub would not work for me.

I don't even necessarily have to have a master bath, but if there were only a shower in it, then it better be a pretty impressive shower.

A house is not a dorm room so I think satisfaction should be based on the entire house and not just what is in the master bedroom. The importance of features varies for each of us so if a tub is not important to you then don't sweat it. For instance, I will not live in a place without covered parking, be it a garage or even a carport. I also will not live in a place where the washer/dryer are in the basement - it's insane to me.

There will be others with the same preferences as you so if this house makes you happy, then I say get it.

We're in the middle of having a house built in a large subdivision. In our previous homes we've lived in, my wife and I have used the tub from time to time, but it was always the large corner tub that was easily big enough for 2 people to stretch out. The house we're building here didn't have the space for that, it would only be the standard tub for one person. We debated back and forth, because we were somewhat concerned about resale value, but in the end we decided to delete the tub. Instead, we're using 1/2 the space to expand the shower. It'll have jets from both sides, etc...a true master shower. The other half is going to be made into a linen closet. The house itself has 2 other tubs in it, which are in the kids bathrooms.

To substitute for the lack of a master tub, we're putting a hot tub outside on our patio. The house is fairly private, and with the way our house is situated, the patio is under a deck that's a good 12-15' up. We're going to get outdoor curtains so we can make it fully private if we want.

I know people say, "Well, there is another bathroom with a tub in the house." But I am really trying to get over it because otherwise the house is great!

When you bought your home, was a tub a factor? When did this new home trend start?!
I would not buy a home that didn't have a big bathtub in the master bath.

I own a home with a hot tub. While it is definitely a draw, it doesn't quite replace having a bathtub when it comes to resale (for people who like to take a standard bath that is not 90+ degree temp water) or who prefer not to freeze when they get out of the water outside during the winter or for the person that actually wants to shave, apply random stuff like epsom salt, etc for soaking. LOL. Should be fun though. We've enjoyed ours immensely.

Lets be honest here - baths are gross. Why would a person choose to soak in their own dirty water? You just got done with yard work, running, or working out? And you are going to dissolve all that into bath water and soak in it? Completely gross. And this doesn't even mention the contamination from a person's nether region that may be in bath water (maybe you wiped last time you had a bowel movement, but did you clean it with soap and water?).

Unless you take a full shower before you take a bath, it's gross.

Not to mention, tubs are a waste of space in a house.
