Cobb Voters Approve 2016 SPLOST | Smyrna-Vinings, GA Patch

Cobb voters approved the SPLOST by 52.83% to 47.17%. Sadly only a little over 200,000 people voted which is about 1/4 the population.

Included in that will be trails, the Windy Hill Boulevard concept in Smyrna, some sort of congestion relief on East-West Connector, build new libraries, and police infrastructure upgrades.

There is no Cobb in the SPLOST, however millions remain in the SPLOST for BRT-related improvements and Lee is pushing for a bond referendum in 2016 for the BRT line.

Cobb has 402,000 ELIGABLE voters. A total of 214,000 votes were cast for a 53% turnout. There have been president's elected with only 40% turnout. Georgia's and N.C.'s were actually higher than usual. Seriously, people need to start caring...

I voted for it. Being close to where the stadium is going to be we're going to need it.

Happy the SPLOST passed, but seriously frustrated that nothing of significance is planned to relieve the worst congestion in Cobb . . . Spring Rd between the Braves stadium and the Racetrack. That area is absolutely brutal now and backs up the exit on 285, Cobb Pkwy heading north, and Cumberland Blvd all the way back to Cumberland Mall.

A measly $4 million for intersection improvements at Cumberland/Spring is nothing. Won't even make a dent.

I voted for it as well and have voted for it every time the two SPLOSTs have been on the ballot in the 7.5 years since we moved to Cobb.

I guess that shatters the knee jerk reaction and stereotyping that some on this board believe. I think SPLOST is a great way to fund important projects and to spread the burden to everyone, not just homeowners.

Don't know much about Cobb, but in Gwinnett there are signs at projects that have been funded by SPLOST to indicate that's how they happened.

It's amazing how many things I care about and use are funded by SPLOST pennies, specifically parks!

They are also doing this -

I-285 at Cobb
Parkway/US 41/SR 3
Interchange
Improvements to the Interchange of I-285
and Cobb Parkway to include access with
Spring Road and Cumberland Boulevard
Cobb
ParkwayUS
41/SR 3
Cumberland
Boulevard $30,000,000

I also voted for it. It seemed to have a lot of improvements in the Smyrna area. I also like the idea of taxing everyone who comes into the county.

Cobb has always made good use of its SPLOST funds.

Agreed. Lots of non-Cobb folks are going to be spending money in/around the stadium area and contributing to the 1%.

Good info on the 285/Spring interchange plans, but I fear they still underestimate the actual stretch of road that runs west between Nalley Lexus and Racetrack. Eastbound has 3 lanes there. Westbound only has 2 and that's the worst stretch.

I have asked both Commissioner Bob Ott and CID Director Malaika Rivers this question directly at meetings recently. They both said they were well aware of that severe bottleneck. Mr. Ott said final plans for Spring Rd could not be made until the Braves determined how/where their entrances/exits would flow. Makes sense, but time is ticking til April 2017 and DOT projects often take years to become reality.
