It won't. This tech boom is the last stop before the Singularity.

Atlanta is in Georgia and tech industry folks have no use for social conservatism. None. Tim Cook's recent coming out underscores why a company like that would never dream of relocating to this state, even if the entire Bay Area succumbed to a massive earthquake and they had to move.

Atlanta is very liberal, and where it's not it's at least generally libertarian. But the politics that define the state, obviously, are not. If the GA GOP would abandon their social conservative bent, then 20 something progressive coders and budding tech entrepreneurs would view GA as a more inviting destination.

Right, but Texas, North Carolina, and Utah all have this same problem, yet the cities that were mentioned earlier here like Austin, Raleigh, and Provo attract these very same people in spite of it. Ultimately, it's the business environment that will win out and Atlanta has a very attractive one.

You know - this is a very salient point. The politics here are not conducive to young and progressive.

What's the singularity (other than a black hole's nucleus)?

Now we both know that won't happen.

You know what's funny? Georgia ranked higher in Tech in 2002 than it does now!

That's a nice Chamber of Commercy kind of statement, but I was expecting to read more tangible evidence of why the city is poised....
