Um... no... most seats are facing front or back not parallel to the tracks.

Once you pass 50 you will not have to worry about it, since you will probably be sitting on them anyway.

Bigger problems on MARTA are people sitting with tons of bags that take up extra room and just being too darn fat.

I'll second the opinion expressed here about the problem of people being too big & taking up too much space, as in more than one seat space.
Also, the escalator related point is valid too. When I'm walking up on the left side, I have to constantly say, "Excuse me", so that I can pass on through the folks standing & blocking both the left & right sides of the escalator.
In D.C. I learned long ago on their Metro system that folks can get very aggressive about patrons standing on the left side on the escalator & blocking movement. Up there I used to hear, "Walk on the left, stand on the right!", and sometimes it wasn't said discreetly or softly. LOL!

I'm a firm believer that Southern Hospitality (tm) has a dark side that prevents us from being able to correct people when they do idiotic and selfish crap. It has made us so weak that if someone in Atlanta were to do what you describe, it would be seen as such an unacceptable affront that there's a very good chance they would be beaten or shot.
