Charlotte is not a massive metro area and doesn't have a massive corporate base like an Atlanta, Miami, Washington, Dallas, ect. Charlotte also lacks any real colleges, including a Tier 1 universities (like a Emory, Georgia Tech, ect.)
Sigh, people don't seem to think much before posting. Really, an airline is going to create a hub because of a university? Really? Also, do you know how big Atlanta was when they created Atlanta's hub?

Much, much smaller than it is today.

You oddly left out a very significant reason for a hub - geography. There is no other comparable Southeastern location... you have to go down to FL which is pretty far down, instead there is hub in the center of the Carolinas... North Carolina is a fast growing state and one of the country's largest. South Carolina is much smaller of course, but in terms of metros there is a lot of people within in a driving radius of Charlotte, add to that the central southeastern geography... well there you go...

Actually Atlanta's airport has been one of the busiest in the world practically since there has been commercial aviation.

The correct answer is no one know's exactly how AA's presence at CLT will play out long term but there will certainly be some change.

Great, but that's not relevant to what I responded to. Of course Atlanta would be busy - there's been no comparable metro in the Southeast - FL was a lot smaller back then and Miami is too far south.

US Airways/American weren't going to have a geographic based hub in Atlanta, so it makes sense that Charlotte is a hub and that hub is one of the ten busiest in the US. I don't see what the issue is...

I can agree, but I still think if BMW is looking south to relocate, the Charlotte area will be very attractive to them--particularly Charlotte's SC suburbs as BMW's NA manufacturing headquarters is in the Greenville-Spartanburg area and SC would pull out all the stops to land the corporate headquarters.

How about an Atlanta topic about Atlanta instead of another insecure Atlanta thread meant to attack other cities?

Huh? I never said that the airline created or would create a hub because of an university. They were meant as two but different points.

Why are people discussing airlines on a MB thread?

Uh, airlines and airports play a role in economic developments. Have you not read the thread?
